In August 1998, W. Moorcroft Plc. acquired Kingsley Enamels Limited, a company with an illustrious history in the specialised world of decorative metal work and painted enamels, some of the metal work dating back to 1904. Moorcroft, a world leader in the field of art pottery, had produced its famous ceramics for more than a hundred years. Rich in history, rich in design, shape, and colour, Moorcroft had much to add to the fine line work and decorating techniques already used by Kingsley. Most important of all, Moorcroft's famous Design Studio became available for advice, bringing with its own distinct style of artistry. Simultaneously, the great library of shapes created and used by Moorcroft for over a hundred years, joined the traditional lidded boxes used by Kingsley to make Moorcroft Enamels totally unique in the world of the applied arts. The shapes used by Moorcroft Enamels are the same as those used by Moorcroft itself: the impact is dramatic and the imagery clearly identifies one with the other. There can be no mistake. Today, deep in the heart of Worcestershire, a county renowned for its traditions in craftsmanship and artistry, Moorcroft continues to use the same raw materials as those used in the world of decorated enamels since the reign of George II. With fine brushwork, vibrant colours, Moorcroft shapes and access to world-famous designers, Moorcroft Enamels continues to create collection after collection of quality, hand-made and painted boxes and vases, putting them among the very best available in the world today, while demand for their famous limited editions continues to outstrip supply. The Moorcroft name brings with it a certainty that it can deliver to its collectors innovative as well as traditional designs of the highest quality - and much more besides. Moorcroft has broke the shackles of two hundred years of tradition by spinning new shapes never seen in the world of enamels before. Ginger jars, enamel boxes and Lilliputian vases, all carrying the Moorcroft name, designs, and marks, will provide collectors with a treasure trove for decades to come.
