Bridge at Courbevoie (Seurat) LE
Georges Seurat painted this atmospheric view in 1886-87 and it is one of the clearest examples of the pointillist technique that he evolved. His aim was to recreate the effects of natural light and color by applying small dots, or points, of color that would blend when seen at the right distance. This still, tranquil scene with its subtle coloring is replicated in miniature on this enamel box. The original is in The Courtauld Gallery. Limited edition of 200. 3.25" x 2.5" x 1 5/8" rectangular box. Deep lilac-colored base. Brand in padded presentation case. Circa 2009.
